SEC accepts report’s contents on Voters’ List, however, some doubts still linger.

-

The State Election Commission (SEC) yesterday accepted the conclusions of a report on data bases that have undergone extensive checks and cross-checking, as well as administrative and field checks, after a vote that resulted with 6 votes ‘for’ and just a single vote ‘against’.

Two SDSM members of the SEC failed to attend yesterdays meeting, the single vote ‘against’ came from the Chairman of the SEC Aleksandar Cicakovski, who first expressed doubts concerning the validity of the information from the Interior Ministry, after noticing the information had not been signed by the Minister concerned, however, none of the other committee members did not dispute the information.

Of the 87,000 ‘suspicious’  names that were subjected to on-the-spot field checks, some 40,000 cases require further checks because citizens were not at home at the time when field checks were carried out, or someone else other than the registered name answered the door.

Of those people who were at home when filed-checks were made, only 34,000 produced valid identity cards or passports, which resulted that approximately for 12,000 identities there was no valid information that is required for the names to appear on the electoral roll.

Chicakovski remains suspicious of voters without residencies in the country. From 139,00 voters, 42,000 are classed as the ‘Dispora’, but for others there is no precise data.

According to SEC members Silvana Boneva and Sasko Srcev, all the problems and dilemmas have been cleared up, and the Electoral Register can guarantee credible elections.

There were some tempestuous reactions to the Chairman’s proposal to publish via the official website, a list of all  voters, with their names, addresses and voting venue. The majority of members argued that it is contrary to the recommendation of the Directorate for Personal Data Protection.

Following the stormy reaction Chicakovski withdrew his proposal.
