VMRO-DPMNE wins 20 mayoral posts in the runoff local elections in North Macedonia, SDSM and DUI win 7 mayoral posts each

Identically to the first round of the local elections in North Macedonia, in the runoff elections yesterday, the opposition party VMRO-DPMNE got most of the mayoral posts – it won 20 municipalities.

According to the first unofficial results from the State Election Commission, VMRO-DPMNE has won the mayoral posts in Pehchevo, Novo Selo, Kochani, Vasilevo, Konche, Radovish, Makedonska Kamenica, Kratovo, Rankovce, Gevgelija, Lozovo, Zelenikovo, Brvenica, Vevchani, Ohrid, Resen, Bitola, Demir Hisar, Makedonski Brod and the city of Skopje.

In the second round of the local elections, SDSM has won the mayoral posts in seven municipalities: Centar, Chucher Sandevo, Staro Nagorichane, Probishtip, Demir Kapija, Rosoman, and Chashka.

An identical number of mayoral posts were won by DUI, which in the second round has won posts in the following municipalities: Chair, Arachinovo, Tearce, Bogovinje, Kichevo, Dolneni, and Struga.

In the second round, the BESA party has won in Tetovo and Zelino, and the coalition between the Alliance of the Albanians and Alternative has also won in Gostivar and Vrapchiste.

Opposition party GROM’s candidate Stevcho Jakimovski has won the local elections in Karposh while DPA party has won the elections in the municipality of Studenichani.

Independent candidates Maksim Dimitrievski and Zoran Nogacheski have won in the second round of the elections in the municipalities of Kumanovo and Debarca.

In the municipality of Shuto Orizari, the current Mayor Kurto Dudash from the coalition LDP/DOM is ahead with the votes of his opponent from SDSM and with counted 96,98% of the votes he leads with 600 votes.

It is highly likely that in the municipality of Debar there will be a second round of the local elections since for now, the candidate of the Alliance of the Albanians and Alternative Bekim Pocesta leads with the votes with 49,7% and this means that in Debar there will be a second round of voting.
