Social networks profiles of citizens of North Macedonia increasingly show the black ribbon on the profile pictures, after the Ministry of Interior (MoI) tonight confirmed the death of the 14-year-old Vanja Gjorchevska, kidnapped 7 days ago. The ministry confirmed that the girl who was abducted in the capital Skopje on Monday was found dead today in its surroundings.
Social networks users express sorrow for the death of the young girl who in the morning of Monday, the 27th of November went to school and suddenly disappeared. Vanja’s mother alarmed the public and asked for assistance in finding her daughter a couple of hours later, after she was alarmed by Vanja’s teacher that the girl didn’t come to classes in the primary school in the broader center of Skopje. She also alarmed the police an hour after Vanja’s disappearance.
Vanja’s body was found today in the vicinity of an express road leading from the capital to the north of the country.
An international missing person warrant was issued for Vanja after it became clear that the girl could not be contacted. The country trembled at every news flash, hoping that the girl was still alive.
Alas, it all went into thin air tonight, after MoI and the Prosecution confirmed that the girl was killed just a couple of hours after she was abducted in front of the building she lived in.
Three of the suspects are in custody, one is abroad, considered a fugitive, and the fifth one is Vanja’s father, who is interrogated by the police.
Oddly enough, Vanja’s murder is connected with the murder of the 74-year-old hair stylist, who was also confirmed dead. He disappeared in Veles, a city 50 km from Skopje, at least 4 days before Vanja, and his car was used for the kidnapping of the 14-year-old Vanja. His car was found burnt just a few or so hours after Vanja was reported kidnapped. The car was found in the vicinity of Skopje, just a couple of kilometers from the place where Vanja’s dead body was found today.
Again, social networks tonight are humming, as the citizens of North Macedonia wonder how this could happen, and many question the scarce information given in the police bulletin.
The Main Prosecutor’s Office and the MoI announced a press conference for tomorrow morning.
