Great Orthodox Christian holiday of Epiphany should bring more than 30,000 visitors to Ohrid, announces the local self-government and the Association “Epiphany”, which are jointly preparing a program that will last five days, with many cultural and artistic contents, as well as with religious traditions in the spirit of the old Ohrid tradition. Most of the guests are expected to arrive from neighboring countries Bulgaria, Serbia, Albania and Greece.
– The program will start on 16th of January, with the performance of the Ohrid folklore associations, and the next day, on 17th of January, Karolina Gocheva will have a concert. On 18th of January, in the House of Uranija, the World Humanism Award will be awarded to John Ralston Saul, and young artists of the art colony “Small Bitola Montmartre” will draw works with motifs from the festive atmosphere in Ohrid. Also, the documentary “Epiphany-Ohrid” will be featured – said Ohrid Mayor Nikola Bakracheski.
The consecration of the lake and throwing the Holy Cross in it will occur on 19th of January at 10 am. Earlier, at 7 am, there will be masses in churches and, at 9 am, choral music will echo on the main city square.
– The goal is the specificity of the celebration of this holiday to be seen by as much guests as possible, with what, during Epiphany, Ohrid becomes the center of Orthodoxy on the Balkans. We will do everything for all to see that Ohrid is a really holy city – said Mitko Pendov of Association “Epiphany”, which is part the organization of commemorations to mark the holiday for the 14th time.
This year also, stands in the center of the city will serve wine, brandy, goose, as well as fish, free of charge. It is notable that this time as well, part of the catering facilities in the city joined the celebration by reducing the price of services.
