President Gjorge Ivanov still believes that his decision to grant pardons is correct, writes the German newspaper “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung“.
When Ivanov was asked whether he would make the same decision over the pardons again, he replied, “Yes!”
“The atmosphere of conflict is the work of the Special Prosecutor’s Office. It investigates selectively and only against the ruling party”, said Ivanov, adding that the opposition failed to win the election and are now trying to come to power in a different way.
According to Ivanov, the current crisis represents a new chapter in a story that has lasted more than a hundred years.
“Fractional fighting in VMRO was often spoken of by its neighbours, and today the Macedonian on Macedonian conflict is the work of external forces … Because of the name dispute, Greece has prevented Macedonia’s accession to NATO and the beginning of negotiations for joining the EU, even though the European Commission recommended starting accession negotiations seven years ago. That is the real reason why the younger generations are fustrated”, said Ivanov.
