Hahn: There must be a compromise in democracy

-

“On 20th of July, there will be a meeting of the Association Council in Brussels, to be attended by the High Representative and me on one side and the Government on the other, and I hope and request from all parties to reach an agreement by then. It will be discussed for the report on the progress of the country, which will be released this autumn. It is important for the European perspective, but Atlantic perspective of the country in these difficult times should also not be forgotten and all need to be aware of that,” said EU Enlargement Commissioner Johannes Hahn in an interview with” Radio Free Europe”.

– Under the agreement of 2nd of June, all parties, including Albanian, agreed on 19th of June that the country is important to them, not personal interests and that they should take responsibility for the country. The economic situation is getting worse. The expected economic growth of four percent is now at least zero, if not below zero. Unemployment is nearly 30 percent. All investment decisions of foreign companies are pending. I think that more than 30 decisions have been put on hold. Also, here is the migration issue which indicates that the country has a lot to do – says Hahn.

He adds that there must be a compromise in democracy.

– And this means that the two sides got closer to each other. It is very important for both sides to take account of the difficult political and economic situation in the country, and that the Euro-Atlantic perspective should be maintained – Hahn said in the interview with RFE.
