“The controversial project” Skopje 2014 “continues to function as a financial “bottomless pit” where the money of citizens of the Republic of Macedonia disappear. Today, the question whether such irrational spending of state money will ever come to an end is justified, because now it is the year 2015, and the project continues to spend millions of euros in vague and unjustifiable purposes.” This is written in the latest bulletin on “Transparency Macedonia” (TM).
“Irrational spending of taxpayers’ money continues in other areas. Namely, what should particularly be emphasized is the new baroque fence around the building of the Government of the Republic of Macedonia. After more than half a century of existence of the government building, a decision it to be fenced with baroque fence is brought. Suspicious political motives for the reservation of the government building aside, it is worth mentioning is the value of 690,000 euros without VAT on construction of this fence, which will include concrete baroque pillars and wrought iron fence, while the far shorter fence near hotel “Holiday Inn” exceeded 1.3 million euros. This just shows how irrational taxpayers’ money is spent. Ministry of Culture, in turn, announced a tender for construction of the monument of Mother Teresa in the center of Skopje for a whopping 5.1 million euros. With taxpayers’ money, with a campaign worth over 500,000 euros, the Government will educate citizens to feed healthy, “reads the bulletin.
“Transparency Macedonia” urged Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski to explain the reasons for the fencing of the building of the Government.
TM demands from local governments and public enterprises to stop wasting taxpayers’ money inappropriately and for dubious purposes.
