Poll: VMRO-DPMNE with a double advantage over SDSM

VMRO-DPMNE has a double advantage over SDSM, according to latest poll by the International Republican Institute (IRI).

According to the poll, if the elections were to be held tomorrow, 23 percent of the population would vote for VMRO-DPMNE, while only 11 percent of respondents would vote for SDSM.

Seven percent would vote for DUI, while only three percent of respondents for DPA.

In Gruevski believe 18 percent of respondents, and in Zaev – 7 percent. Ali Ahmeti is right behind him with six percent confidence, while only two percent of respondents have confidence in Menduh Thaci.

According to the citizens, the ruling VMRO-DPMNE is the most capable political parties to resolve the problems with the economy, unemployment, corruption, rule of law, inter-ethnic relations and local issues, safety and security and the integration of Macedonia into the EU and NATO.

In the poll of IRI, citizens said that VMRO-DPMNE is most active party in their communities. 47 percent of the respondents reported that VMRO-DPMNE is most active party, followed by SDSM with 7 percent, DUI with 11 percent and DPA with 2 percent.

Asked which party makes the most efforts for citizens, 27 percent of respondents answered that it is VMRO DPMNE, 13 percent – SDSM, DUI – 7 percent, DPA – 3 percent.

28 percent of respondents believe that VMRO-DPMNE can better develop the economy and reduce unemployment, and only 11 percent of respondents think that SDSM can do that.

In terms of ensuring the rule of law, 23 percent gave the trust and support to VMRO-DPMNE, versus 10 percent of respondents, who were in favor of SDSM.

Almost 21 percent of the citizens feel that VMRO-DPMNE can successfully deal with problems in interethnic relations, while SDSM – 9 percent.

21 percent of citizens believe that the VMRO-DPMNE could better tackle crime and corruption, while SDSM received significantly lower confidence about this topic, i.e. 7 percent of respondents would trust SDSM to resolve this issue.

Citizens believe that VMRO-DPMNE can better realize the integration agenda of the EU and NATO. The ruling party has the support of 24 percent of the citizens on this subject, despite the SDSM – 13 percent.

With the support of 27 percent of the population, Gruevski’s party also has the highest confidence for ensuring safety and security, as opposed to 10 percent who believe that SDSM has a greater capacity for this issue.

VMRO-DPMNE and Gruevski have more support from the citizens in terms of local government, by a margin of 24 percent versus 9 percent for SDSM.

Field poll of the International Republican Institute was made from 6th to 15th of June on a representative sample of 1,105 respondents.
