“Divo Naselje” trial postponed, journalists and lawyers were not allowed to enter the court room

-

The “Divo Naselje” trial which stems from the events of the 9th and 10th of May last year, was postponed again today after court police from the Supreme Court did not allow journalists or lawyers to enter the courthouse where the hearing was meant to take place.

The Supreme Court did not have a specific explanation as to why journalists or lawyers were not allowed to enter. In a brief telephone call, they said that the trial was being held by the Criminal Court and the court police have to arrange an escort for all parties concerned.

After taking the journalists for a walk from one part of the Supreme Court to the other, journalists remained standing outside the entrance, and only the defendants and two prosecutors were allowed to enter the courtroom.
After an hour or so, the prosecutors left the court, and prosecutor Vilma Rusevska said that the trial was postponed because the court police did not allow the lawyers to enter. She informed everyone that the hearing was rescheduled for the 6th of June.

Lawyer, Mefail Arslani said he would ask for an explanation from the Basic Court Skopje 1, as to why they were not allowed to enter the Supreme Court today.

“What game they’re playing, we do not know. We were told that today’s hearing was postponed because lawyers were not present in the courtroom, but we were not allowed to enter the courtroom. We will ask for an explanation from the President of the Basic Court Skopje 1”, said Arslani.
