German Embassy: The special prosecutor should have complete autonomy and access to all materials

The German Embassy in Macedonia today announced that it has high expectations regarding the appointment of a special prosecutor on the 15th of September, established by the Agreements of June the 2nd and July 15th.

“This appointment is an important obligation of the aforementioned agreements, the special prosecutor should ensure an independent, transparent and comprehensive legal redress charges for serious repercussions which came from the telephone recordings. Only this way the reliability of the country’s institutions can again be restored which are facing serious charges”, read the statement.

The Embassy, as stated in the document expects that the special prosecutor will be able to carry out his responsibilities under full autonomy, which is guaranteed by the parties according to the agreement from the 15th of July and have access to all the materials that are relevant for his research.

“Resolving this political crisis is only possible with the full and timely implementation of all steps agreed in the treaties. The Embassy hopes that the prosecution services and the courts of the country will decide the procedures relating to the telephone recordings, and will be in accordance with national and international regulations. Furthermore, all procedures should be handled in a way that provides comprehensive research and resolution, “said the statement. It also stated that the Embassy with be paying close attention to decisions made by the Basic Court Skopje 1, from the 1st of September.
