Trains in Macedonia travel to some destinations, the buses are still halted

-

The Intercity bus station in Skopje is empty and the situation is the same with all stations in the other cities throughout the country. The coronavirus expediently cut off the links between the cities. According to the data provided by the State Transport Inspectorate, in the period 12-18th of May, 114 supervisions were conducted and it was seen that the municipality traffic was almost completely reduced i.e. its intensity was decreased by 95%.

This means that the intercity bus and taxi transportation between cities doesn’t function, at least when it comes to the registered transporters. The State Transport Inspectorate informs that in the past seven days, the intercity links from Skopje to cities such as Ohrid, Bitola, Resen, Prilep, Probishtip, Kratovo, Kriva Palanka, Kochani, Berovo and vice versa, were non-operational.

The numerous complaints by citizens throughout the social networks were followed with explanations by carriers that they are awaiting for the decision to be abolished where the lines will have to maintain a halved number of passengers in the vehicles. By respecting this measure for 50% decreased capacities in the vehicle, none of the carriers find it profitable to transit.

On the other hand, RNM’s Railway – Transport is regularly maintaining the railway lines between Skope – Gevgelija – Skopje, Skopje – Bitola – Skopje and Skopje – Veles-Skopje. The trainss to Kochani, Kichevo and Kumanovo are in a halt. Still, a large number of cities throughout the country aren’t linked with the capital by railway lines, thus their citizens have no possibility to travel if they don’t go by car.
