President Ivanov will convene with the Security Council this evening

-

Due to recent developments with the refugee crisis, President Gjorge Ivanov after today’s tour of the southern border, announced that tonight he will convene with the Security Council.

“The Army is already alarmed at the amount of people coming out of the “quota 59” and illegally entering the crossings are not marked, and we are not aware of. It will involve taking special measures by the ARM (Army of the Republic of Macedonia) in order to direct those people who are avoiding to be registered. Once someone has avoided being registered it gives reasonable doubt about whether that person has good intentions” said President Ivanov.

The terrorist attacks in Paris, according to the President will have an impact on the refugee crisis.

“We already saw this morning many countries deciding to completely change their approach towards the issue of refugees and the issue of security and terrorist threats, and we should probably expect somewhere else a similar terrorist act as we witnessed in Paris last night. So, in all countries on the continent safety at this point is most important and security levels have been raised, and that is what we are doing as well”, the President said.

He added, that this was the reason behind the gathering of the Security Council, to oversee any activities or threats currently going on.

“We have already planned the convening of the Security Council this evening to have an insight to the reports from the Army. We are talking about more than 8,500 people who have, in a sense fallen outside of the quota 59”, said President Ivanov.

In regards to the journalist’s question whether Macedonia will be building refugee camps, President Ivanov clarified his position which he had announced also at the summit in Brussels. In the south, there is the capacity for 1.500 people, who will be in transit, and another 500 people in the north where they will be exiting the territory.
