Police investigation for the case “Eel”, as informed by MOI, revealed a complex network of fraudulent deals which are suspected to be made by the former mayor of Ohrid, his close associates and managers of construction companies who were privileged in the public procurement procedures of the Municipality of Ohrid.
According to information of MOI, in the period from 2007 to 2013, the suspects damaged the municipal budget for a sum of 785,000 euros.
As it was determined in the recent investigation, the group embezzled approximately 2.4 million euros, and, according to the report, 37,000 euros were taken by Petreski. In addition, the group is suspected to have laundered, i.e. put around 261,000 euros in legal circulation. The former mayor is also charged for taking a bribe from two persons in a total amount of 12,000 euros.
According to the police, the businesses and individuals who had a privileged status during the division of tenders were paid the amount of 29 million euros, while the other creditors of the Municipality of Ohrid, to whom the municipality owed money, the reason because of which its bank account was blocked, were damaged for the amount of about 14 million euros.
