Natural gas consumption by end use in North Macedonia last year rose by 12.5%

The total consumption of natural gas in North Macedonia last year increased by 12.5% compared to 2019. A total of 471 consumers, out of which 340 are households, had used 338 million cubic meters of gas. In 2020, there are 53 new gas plugs from the group of households, compared to 2019, when only 14 new gas plugs were registered, show the analyses by the Energy and Water Services Regulatory Commission – EWSRC

As EWSRC’s President, Marko Bislimovski stressed during the press conference, the gas power plant Te-To Ad Skopje remains the chief consumer of the natural gas nationwide, with around 68% of the total annual consumption. The second on the list of companies that have spent most normal cubic meters is “Production of heat – Balkan Energy”: Dooel, and it is followed by Maksteel and ESM “Energetika” – sub-branch.”

“The consumption of natural gas is on the rise year after year, which is an indicator that the gas is economically the best energy source and environmentally best as, well. There is increased consumptionin the hospitals, approximately around 8%, and there is an increase of the consumption by the thermal power plants, while the spending in public institutions and the food industry remains stable,” said Bislimovski.
