Today, an inter-party parliamentary group for the rights of the Roma in the Republic of Macedonia was established and promoted in Parliament.
The initiators of this idea are MPs Samka Ibraimoski, Dime Velkovski, Irena Stefoska, Maja Morachanin, Liljana Popovska, Enes Ibrahim, Agim Murtezanov, Mirsada Emini-Asani, Ivana Tufegdzic, Gulsumzer Kasapi, Pavle Bogoevski, Slavica Sumanska-Miteva, Sonja Mirakovska and Juliana Nikolova.
Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi said interparty groups are not a novelty in Parliament, but the evidence is that MPs maturity and the fact that they rise above party interests, regardless of the political provocations they come from, they have come together and are cooperating and doing something that is for the common good, in this case, for the benefit of the citizens of the Roma ethnic community.
“We are all well aware of the general situation of our fellow citizens, that is, the fact that they are marginalized, insufficiently integrated into society, with low level of involvement in the educational process, with insufficient coverage by the health sector and a number of other disadvantages that negatively affect their economic and general well-being. Efforts are being made for the improvement of this situation, and I am thinking of the Decade of the Roma, whose Republic of Macedonia is a signatory, and the contribution of the non-governmental sector is not so small, however, we must not forget that we are representatives of the people, we are elected by the people, this is the home of the people and here lay the laws that sanction this area being adopted, amended and supplemented. However, we must not only remain on the adoption of quality laws, but we should engage in the direction of overseeing there implementation, that is, the implementation of those laws”, said Xhaferi.
