“With great joy and excitement, we inform you that there will not be a mine of death at Ilovica and Shtuka. This is a great victory for the ecology in Macedonia” announced today the environmental organizations from Strumica and the villages from the area of Strumica, Ilovica and Shtuka as soon as the media informed about the Committee’s decision that it rejects the appeal lodged by the Euromax Resources. With this, the decision will come into force and it will pave the way for a final cancelation of the concession which is based upon several reasons all stated in the law on mineral raw material, states the press release issued by the Eko-dolina organization from Strumica.
Further, Eko – dolina announced that they expect the government to pass a decision for a one-sided annulment of the agreement for a concession for exploitation of raw mineral materials with the concessioner Euromax Resources. The government informs that in the aftermath of the Committee’s decision, a request still hasn’t been lodged to put the Ilovica mine on the agenda.
The former concessioner of the unopened Ilovica mine issued a reaction about the Committee’s decision.
“We received the decision from the State Committee and we are analyzing the details that were published with the decision including the implications that will come out from it” states the press release issued by Euromax Resources.
Regarding the speculations that this Canadian company will sue the state about the losses caused by annulling the concession, they stated that it is too early to announce what will their decision be about future steps but they will inform the general public.
