The Macedonian current crisis is not one of those “imported from outside,” but is rather due to the network of corrupt politicians in high positions, and their fear that justice may come, writes the “Huffington Post“.
“Politicians in the Balkan countries, in general, are known for manipulating masses with various “conspiracy theories,” usually claiming all problems are “imported” from the outside. But such political maneuvering works rather well in this region, where ethno-politics and ethno-nationalism are still predominant forces in the political landscape. Playing the “international conspiracy” card, along with still very dominant ethno-politics in Macedonia’s multiethnic and multicultural society, is the best way to turn away attention from this huge scandal that would likely topple several prominent political figures”, says the “Huffington Post”.
The US State Department and the EU strongly opposed the President Ivanov’s decision to pardon said the “Huffington Post” in their analysis, which predicts that the upcoming elections in Macedonia, scheduled for June 5, will not be recognized internationally.
The text says that Ivanov should revoke his pardon and allow the Macedonian justice system to do its job. The American portal said Ivanov appeared to be under serious duress by Gruevski’s team to sign the pardons, sparking unprecedented protests throughout the country.
