Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski, accompanied by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Health, Nikola Popovski and Nikola Todorov, arrived at the residence of the European Union at a meeting with EU Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighborhood Policy Johannes Hahn and the three MEPs, Eduard Kukan, Ivo Vajgl and Richard Howitt.
Earlier, at the residence of the EU, SDSM leader Zoran Zaev had a meeting with Hahn, who came accompanied by Radmila Shekerinska and Renata Treneska-Deskoska.
This morning, Hahn met with leaders of Albanian political parties, Ali Ahmeti of DUI and DPA leader Menduh Thaci.
After the meeting with Hahn, Ahmeti said there is a willingness to resolve the political crisis and that it is time to put state in the foreground, not party interests.
After the meeting with Gruevski, depending on the course of talks, it is possible a leadership meeting to be held. During the day’s scheduled press conference of Hahn, on which the results of the talks will be announced and whether there is hope of resolving the political crisis.
Today’s talks were an attempt to break a deadlock after the government and the opposition failed to iron out differences on the agreement of 2nd of June, which envisages amendments to the Electoral Code, purging of voter lists, the return of the opposition to the Assembly, stopping publication of “bombs” and forming a transitional government, which will organize elections in April next year.
