The ambassadors of the US, Britain, France, Italy, Germany and the European Union have expressed their condolences to the Macedonian citizens about the tragic death of the policemen were killed in Kumanovo and regret for the suffering of the citizens of Kumanovo.
After meeting with Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski, in a joint statement, they said they offer their help in every possible way.
– We have long supported Macedonia’s efforts to join the EU and NATO and, as friends and partners, we have expressed our concern about the political crisis that is still ongoing. We have pointed out our concerns to Prime Minister Gruevski that his government did not make progress in the declaration about the abuses of the Government since the publication of the scandal. This opens serious doubt whether the Government of Macedonia is committed to democratic principles and values of the Euro-Atlantic community. Continued failure will hurt the progress of EU and NATO membership. We express our concern that all political and legal measures for those responsible are not taken in the wiretapping case. To deal with institutional weakness, we call on the Government to undertake certain reforms, such as checking the electoral system, freedom of the media, independence of the judiciary, freedom of expression and protection of “informers”. We support the fundamental democratic rights of citizens to gather in peaceful protests and urge all to refrain from violence. With the peaceful expression of democratic rights and the denunciation of violence – whether by the police or by the demonstrators – the courage and sacrifice of those who gave their lives in service to the citizens of Macedonia will be honored. In the coming days, we also plan to meet with Mr. Ahmeti and Mr. Zaev and to share similar messages – said US Ambassador Jess Bailey after the meeting with Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski.
