Recent heavy rainfall further complicated the already difficult situation in Pelagonija. Several villages are threatened by new floods after the latest outpouring of river Crna in the morning.
Most affected villages are again in the Municipality of Mogila.
River Crna is flooded near Lozani and Topolchani, so 2,000 hectares of arable land is under water today.
– Whole of Pelagonija is under water, it seems to be no end. We suffer the same things for the fourth time. Groundwater and surface water are merged and there is no salvation. We missed the chance to repair the bed of river Crna after the first flood of the river in February, so now we can only watch as it destroys everything and wait for the sun – says Mayor of the Municipality of Mogila Stevche Pivkovski.
Floods again threaten the Municipality of Novaci as well. The spillover of river Crna there and on the ninth channel threaten villages Dolgobevci, Aglarci, Dobromiri, Ribarci and Gneotino teams for assistance are already mobilized.
– The whole of Pelagonija is a swamp, you cannot get through even with mechanization. There is a lot of humidity if the rain continues, I do not know what else we could do. With the outpouring of river Crna near Loznani, we already fear that some settlements in our municipality will again be flooded. Damages are still not paid to people and new damages are done – said Laze Kotevski, Mayor of Novaci.
Both Pelagonija municipalities receive donations for flooded villages, and have yet to determine the amounts that the government should pay the locals for damages suffered from the floods in their fields and homes.
