Vajgl: A positive recommendation for Macedonia depends on the Przhino Agreement

-

The Progress Report for the country and whether Macedonia will lose its recommendation as a Member State of the EU depends on the implementation of the Przhino Agreement said European MP Ivo Vajgl, after todays meeting with SDSM leader Zoran Zaev. He stated he would start a parliamentary procedure to report on the progress and hopes to be able to take into account the Przhino Agreement.

“I hope that the time frame for the implementation of the Agreement will be respected. There is no question about a delay of one or two days, but the whole process, which is in the interest of everyone, it should be respected. I think unnecessary delays can cause major problems for Macedonia. If the agreement is not implemented, the country can be seen as a country in crisis, and we believe that by achieving the Przino Agreement, the crisis can be overcome. I would also like to see that the media support the deal and increasing pressure on political parties to abide by the agreement”, Mr Vajgl said.

Answering the question whether Macedonia could lose its recommendation, he said he hoped this year’s report would not be worse than last years.

“We would like to see Macedonia as a credible candidate country for membership in the EU. Of course, everything depends on the debate in Parliament, the implementation of the agreement and in April the ability to hold transparent, fair and democratic elections”, said Ivo Vajgl.

Next Mr Vajgl will meet the Vice Prime Minister of European Integration Fatmir Besimi, which will be his last meeting before he leaves Macedonia.

SDSM said that their party leader before the rapporteur said that the disabling of the work of the Special Prosecutor’s Office violated the Przhino Agreement.

“This is an attempt by the Gruevski’s government, so SDSM will abandon the negotiating process and an attempt to sabotage the independent work of the Special Public Prosecutor” Zaev told him at the meeting.
