Today, President Gjorge Ivanov met with the President of the European Council, Donald Tusk. Ivanov’s Cabinet announced that at the meeting, they will focus on efforts to achieve a common European solution for the refugee and migrant crisis.
“We require and expect a decision from the European Council, and we have no interest in letting the entire burden fall only upon Greece, but we will not allow one-sided decisions to be realized which will harm us. At the same time, Macedonia will cooperate with its Southern neighbor to overcome the challenges of the migrant crisis”, said Ivanov.
At the meeting, the President warned that illegal and violent attempts to cross the border have increased, the use of forged passport, forged documents from FRONTEX, as well as violence on the border against the security forces.
A written statement from the Presidents Cabinet said, the interlocutors agreed that urgent coordination as well as synchronized action is needed from all concerned countries and a solution all parties will abide by.
