Thessaloniki MEP Kaili defends Greek veto for Macedonia

-

Greek MEP Eva Kaili heated the discussion regarding the name dispute at a lecture organized by the European Parliament in the Netherlands on the occasion of the annual summit of the NATO Parliamentary Committee. The Summit of representatives of parliamentary committees of NATO member-states was held in Hague from 21st to 24th of November. Kaili fiercely reacted to the statement of US Senator Michael Turner, who, during his speech about NATO enlargement, named Macedonia under its constitutional name, indicating that the name dispute should not be an obstacle to the reception of the country in the Alliance.

Thessaloniki MEP vehemently retorted that nobody has the right to annul Greece’s right to veto on this topic until the name dispute is solved.

-Nobody can deny our right to veto until this issue is finally resolved, and when I would say that I’m from Macedonia, I wouldn’t have to explain which Macedonia I am from – Kaili stated in a response to the speech of Turner.

MEP from PASOK became a part of the new composition of the European Parliament as part of a coalition of center-left, Olive.

According to her, the open problems with countries that are not members of the Alliance should be settled outside of its frames.
