Macedonian Prime Minister Zaev states that the initiative for early ratification of the NATO Accession Protocol by VMRO-DPMNE is a deceit

VMRO-DPMNE’s initiative for an early ratification of the NATO accession protocol is a deceit, said Prime Minister Zoran Zaev when he replied to a question posted by a journalist whether he will take the opposition party’s initiative that was filed yesterday at the Parliament which on the other hand redirected the request to the Government.

He asked where was VMRO-DPMNE when they were asked to provide their support when the road to NATO was being opened up.

“They remained in their seats and stood over the heads of their MP colleagues when a decision was made to change the constitution. We don’t have to hurry as there is a protocol and we shall wait for SPain” said Zaev.

VMRO-DPMNE’s MP group and the coalition “For Macedonia’s renewal” filed an initiative at the Parliament for the Government with a request to file the Law on ratification of the North-Atlantic Agreement and the Accession Protocol for the membership to Greece and Turkey as soon as possible.

“This procedure is a practice that NATO introduced when Montenegro joined NATO. In April 2017, the Montenegrin Parliament ratified these documents ahead of its time and the ratification of the accession protocol for Montenegro by Netherlands and Spain occurred a month later, in May 2017” explained VMRO-DPMNE’s coordinator at the Parliament, Nikola Micevski.
