Hungarian court rejects extradition of Gruevski

-

The court in Budapest, Hungary, at today’s hearing, decided to reject the request for the extradition of former Macedonian Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski, informs “Index.hu”.

The judge announced that this decision, concerning the extradition of the fugitive Gruevski, who should serve a sentence of two years imprisonment for the procurement of a bulletproof Mercedes worth nearly 600,000 euros, was based on the request of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of North Macedonia.

The defense asked for the court hearing to be closed for journalists. The hearing started at 10 and ended at 11.13 o’clock.

Judge Várhegyi Éva said the extradition request was rejected due to the status of asylum seeker.

Then, the detention of Gruevski was cancelled.

For now it is unknown whether the Public Prosecutor of Budapest will appeal the decision.
