Commission votes for proposal to strip Gruevski of his parliamentary mandate

-

The Commission on Mandate and Immunity Issues has voted on the proposal to strip fugitive MP Nikola Gruevski of his parliamentary mandate in his absence on the grounds that he was unjustifiably absent for over six months.

The motion was passed with five votes “for”, while MPs from VMRO-DPMNE did not vote. The proposal should be submitted at a plenary session, where MPs are expected to make a final decision to strip Gruevski of his mandate in Parliament.

After last night’s session, VMRO-DPMNE’s Executive Committee called on its MPs to vote in accordance with the law and Constitution in regard to Nikola Gruevski’s mandate in Parliament.

“If the conditions are fulfilled in accordance with the law and Constitution for the termination of Nikola Gruevski’s mandate, then we appeal and encourage MPs in Parliament to act in accordance with the laws and Constitution”,  said the Executive Committee from VMRO-DPMNE.
