Census 2021: North Macedonia with 1 836 713 citizens, out of whom 526 502 live in Skopje

At the 2021 Census in North Macedonia, a total of 2,097,319 persons were evidenced, out of whom 1,836,713 are residents living in Macedonia, while 260 606 are non-resident population, announced the Director of the State Statistical Office, Apostol Simovski during yesterday’s press conference.

Skopje, the capital of North Macedonia, has 526,502 residents i.e. the number of the population has been increased by 3,9% compared to 2002, while the number of households in Skopje is 171,171 and has increased by 16.8% compared to 2002.

North Macedonia has 598,632 households, while the average number of household members is 3,06.

Out of the total resident population, 925,626 are female (50.4%), while 911,087 are male (49.6%).

According to the number of citizens, the smallest municipality is Zrnovci, with 2 086 people, and the largest is the Municipality of Kumanovo, with 98,104 people. The population density in this country is 72.2 per square kilometer.

In North Macedonia, there are 207 ghost towns, while the average age of the population is 40.08 years.

Concerning the number of the centenarians, in North Macedonia there are 51 people aged above 100.

The number of foreigners with temporal residence in North Macedonia for a period of fewer than 12 months, as part of the total non-resident population, is 1,674 persons.
