Berlin: Haindl will work closely with the EC and USA to overcome crisis in Macedonia

-

The German Foreign Office today repeated their concern over the political crisis in Macedonia and said that those were the reasons a Special Representative was appointed to Macedonia, which will help in overcoming the crisis.

“The internal political situation in FYR Macedonia concerns us greatly. A way out for this serious crisis is not even in sight, it is worrying. Therefore, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Frank-Walter Steinmeier, decided to appoint a special person in charge, ie Special Commissioner, for the situation in FYR Macedonia. He asked Ambassador Johannes Haindl (current ambassador in Vienna) to undertake this function. From now, Ambassador Haindl will work closely with the European Commission and the United States and other partners to support them in their mediation in overcoming this internal political crisis”, said a spokesman for the German Foreign Ministry, Martin Scheffer at a press conference in Berlin.

Scheffer stressed that it is an expression, a condition of sorts, of the engagement of the Federal Government of Germany with countries in the Western Balkans, also in view of the European perspective, as in terms of their integration into Euro-Atlantic structures they have with these countries.
