Out of the 466,000 registered vehicles in the country, until 2017, 269,000 were made before 2002. The math shows that more than half of the vehicles on our roads in the country are 18 years or older.
According to the Ministry of Economy’s Rule-book on old-timers, the status of a vehicle with special museum value (old-timer) is given to a vehicle that is older than 35 years. This means that vehicles in the country’s fleet are dominated by two-wheeled vehicles that have already become old timers.
For a long time, environmentalists have warned that this condition contributes to increased air pollution, as such vehicles have engines with old standards when it comes to exhaust gases and have asked the government to limit the import of used vehicles.
