Nimetz has met with Zaev and meetings with Dimitrov, Ahmeti and Mickoski will follow

The mediator in the negotiations in the name dispute, Matthew Nimetz has met with President Gjorge Ivanov and Prime Minister Zoran Zaev.

After that, a meeting is planned with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikola Dimitrov which will be followed by giving statements for the media.

This afternoon, starting at 15h, Nimetz will meet with the leader of VMRO-DPMNE, Hristijan Mickoski, and at 16h, he will meet with DUI’s party leader, Ali Ahmeti.


Nimetz: After Athens, I expect good discussions in Skopje

We had good meetings in Athens. We are hoping to have good ones as well in here. I look forward to the meetings at the government and with the other leaders, said the UN’s mediator, Matthew Nimetz after his arrival in Skopje, reports the MIA news agency.

This afternoon he was staying at the Holiday Inn hotel together with his associates. The meetings between Nimetz with the Macedonian political leadership are set for tomorrow.

As was announced today, Nimetz will be meeting with the Head of the Macedonian diplomacy, Nikola Dimitrov, the President of the country, Gjorge Ivanov, Prime Minister Zoran Zaev and the party leaders of DUI and VMRO-DPMNE, Ali Ahmeti and Hristijan Mickoski.

AN official statement about the visit and the results from the talks in Skopje with mediator Nimetz, according to the announcement issued by MFA, will be given by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikola Dimitrov, after the meeting


Osmani-Kotzias: We have a historic chance to solve the name dispute so let’s not miss it

This year represents a historical chance for surpassing of the misunderstanding regarding the use of the name of our country, said the Vice Premier for European Affairs, Bujar Osmani during today’s meetings in Athens with the Head of the Greek diplomacy, Nikos Kotzias and the Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs for European Affairs and International Economic Relations with Greece, Jorgos Katrugalos in Athens.

-As politicians that have won the trust to lead their citizens, we have the obligation to show maturity and seriousness, and not to miss this opportunity, said Osmani, states the press release from the meetings of his cabinet.

He also said that in Macedonia there is an “evident optimism for closing this issue” and has expressed hope that along with “the positive signals that are arriving on part of Greece, this issue will finally be surpassed.”


Tomorrow Zaev and his delegation pay Kosovo an official visit

Prime Minister Zoran Zaev with a government delegation, will pay an official visit to the Republic of Kosovo tomorrow, the government’s press service announced.

The delegation, led by Zaev, is comprised of Minister of Economy, Kreshnik Bekteshi, Minister of Transport and Communications, Goran Sugareski, Minister of Culture, Robert Alagjozovski and Minister without Portfolio in charge of Diaspora, Edmond Ademi.

On the agenda, during the visit, several bilateral meetings are scheduled between the government delegations of Macedonia and Kosovo, and the first a face to face meeting with Zaev his Kosovo counterpart, Ramush Haradinaj, after which a joint press conference is scheduled .

Zaev will also meet with the of Parliament Speaker of Kosovo, Kadri Veseli, and the Macedonian Prime Minister will also meet with representatives of the Macedonian-Kosovo business community, as well as with companies from Macedonia and Kosovo.

Prime Minister Zaev will round up his visit with at a meeting with Kosovo President Hashim Thaci.

The visit of the government delegation to Kosovo is the first official visit of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Macedonia to the Republic of Kosovo.


Zaev participated in a diplomatic reception organized by Trump

Prime Minister Zoran Zaev participated in a diplomatic reception organized by the President of the United States, Donald Trump, at the 72nd United Nations General Assembly in New York.

“Diplomatic reception, organized by the US President of the UN General Assembly is an opportunity to strengthen friendships and future cooperation in the interest of our countries”, Zaev wrote on Twitter.

The Macedonian Prime Minister participated in the panel-session “Open Government Partnership – Restoring Confidence in Government” in the UN, where he stressed that “the trust between governments, citizens and organizations of different kinds is crucial for the establishment for transparent and vigorous democracies”.

In the past few days, in New York, Zaev had meetings with heads of government from several countries and businessmen, and within the activities of the UN General Assembly his participation in the Bloomberg Global Business Forum was announced as well as meetings with the EU Commissioner for Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, Johannes Hahn. He will attend the dinner organized by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini.

Prime Minister Zoran Zaev will lead the delegation of the Republic of Macedonia at the 72nd General Assembly of the United Nations in New York from 17th to 19th September, announced the Government’s Public Relations Department.

The delegation will consist of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikola Dimitrov and the Minister without a portfolio in charge of the Diaspora, Edmond Ademi.

Zaev will attend the opening of the work of the UN General Assembly and address the conference on “Open Government”, chaired by French President, Emanuel Macron.

The Prime Minister will have a working lunch with UN Secretary-General António Guterres and other bilateral meetings, including with the President of the European Council, Donald Tusk, with the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, with the Prime Ministers of Norway and Malta, as well as with US President Donald Trump.

Zaev will also meet representatives of the Macedonian Diaspora in the United States, as well as with American businessmen.


Zaev and a government delegation will be attending the summit on the Western Balkans in Trieste

Prime Minister Zaev will be leading a government delegation to the fourth EU Summit – Western Balkans, as part of the Berlin process that will officially start tomorrow. The summit, which is under the auspice of Italy, will welcome Prime Ministers and ministers from the six countries of the Western Balkans including the High EU Representative, Federica Mogherini, the European Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, Johannes Hahn and the European Commissioner for Transport, Violeta Bolc.

At the summit, Zaev will have bilateral meetings with the prime ministers of Albania, Edi Rama, Serbia, Ana Brnabić, and Slovenia, Miro Cerar, and will also be having meetings with the UK’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Boris Johnson.

The goal of the Summit is to instigate the movement of the Euro-integrations of the countries from the Western Balkans and to contribute to its infrastructural and economic interconnection.


This afternoon, Zaev will hold separate press conferences with Stoltenberg and Hahn

Prime Minister Zoran Zaev and European Commissioner for Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations will hold a joint press conference this afternoon at 14:30 pm.

At the press conference, details of the talks held between Zaev and Hahn will be announced regarding Macedonia’s European perspective, as well as the possibility of removing the conditionality on the recommendation for membership in the EU. Zaev is expected to reveal details with his talks with High Representative Federica Mogherini, and with the President of the European Council, Donald Tusk.

After meeting with the European Union’s high representatives, Zaev and his government delegation will be meeting with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, and after that, they too will hold a joint press conference at 16:15 pm.

In Brussels, Zaev is accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Radmila Šekerinska, Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration, Bujar Osmani and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikola Dimitrov. The purpose of the visit is to confirm the new Government’s commitment towards Euro-Atlantic integration.


Gruevski leaves for EPP Congress in Malta

Today, the leader of VMRO-DPMNE, Nikola Gruevski, together with a delegation from his party left to attend the Congress of the European People’s Party (EPP), which will be held in Malta over the next few days, confirmed the Director of Central Communications of VMRO-DPMNE, Ivo Kotevski for “Meta”.

Gruevski’s visit to Malta to participate in the EPP Congress comes at a time when Parliament should be appointing a new president of Parliament, as a condition for continuing the process of forming a government after the elections on December 11th last year.

Kotevski said that Gruevski’s stay at the EPP Congress, among other things “will be used for bilateral meetings with people from the European political establishment”.


Zaev: Hahn’s messages are clear – the processes must be sped up

The messages of the EU Commissioner and the EU MPs are crystal clear and the processes must be sped up, said SDSM’s party leader, Zoran Zaev, after the meeting with EU’s Commissioner, Johannes Hahn and MPs, Ivo Vajgl, Edvard Kukan and Knut Fleckenstein.

Zaev said that they remain firm on the request that the president of the country Gjorge Ivanov to assign the mandate for the new government.

-We will remove all obstacles that Ivanov is coming up with or is planting and we shall submit a new request through the Parliament to assign the mandate. He mustn’t hinder the process of stabilization of the country. We remain firm on our request for Ivanov to assign the mandate – said Zaev, also saying that he expects that all political parties will show a sentiment for surpassing the crisis.

SDSM’s party leader said that the EU Commissionary and the EU MPs are ready after the forming of the new government to help speeding up the negotiations for a membership of Macedonia into the European Union.

Zaev said that he is convinced that the constitutive session will be held at the end of the week and the Parliament will continue with its work and everything beyond that will mean”banalization and seeking excuses on part of VMRO-DPMNE.”
