Dr. Srgjan Kerim, the Former Minister of Foreign Affairs, has been nominated by the Macedonian Government for the position of Secretary General of the United Nations.
The Eastern European Group in the UN, which the Republic of Macedonia is part of, also share the view that the next Secretary General based on the system of rotation should be chosen from within its own ranks.
“After much diplomatic consultation the Government believes that Dr. Srgjan Kerim is a person who meets the necessary conditions and criteria to be a candidate for the post of UN Secretary-General. He has experience and knowledge for international process, diplomatic qualifications and especially broad recognition among the member states”, said the statement.
