Two unsuccessful attempts for appointment of a public prosecutor

-

With an hour delay, the Parliament began its session today at noon for the appointment of Ljubomir Joveski as the new state public prosecutor, but after two unsuccessful attempts for his appointment, the president of the Parliament, Talat Xhaferri stopped the session as there weren’t 61 MPs present in the hall.

After the first voting, 60 MPs cast their votes, where 59 voted for and one was withheld, which made Xhaferri react, unaware that the mics were on when he said: “who is withholding?”

He asked the services at the Parliament to determine the number of present MPs, but even after a repeated voting, it remained identical only this time all 60 MPs voted “for.”

Due to a lack of a quorum of 61 MP, as is necessary for the appointment of a new state public prosecutor, Xhaferri called for a half an hour break and asked the coordinators to gather the MPs.

The session is boycotted by VMRO-DPMNE’s MPs and they are boycotting the work of the Parliament because of the detention of 6 of their colleagues, suspects in the violence that happened on the 27th of April this year at the Parliament.
