Three migrants found drowned in the River Suva near Gevgelija

Three lifeless bodies were found this morning in the River Suva, near the Macedonian – Greek border, according to the first information,  the bodies are most probably those of migrants, said the Ministry of Interior to “Meta”.

According to preliminary official information, this morning around at 6:45 am, three bodies in the River Suva were reported to the police station in Gevgelija.

“These are the bodies of a woman and two men. We are currently inspecting the scene. It is assumed that the bodies are those of migrants”, said the Interior Ministry.

It is unclear exactly the cause of death of the migrants. First assumptions are that they most likely drowned while attempting to cross the river, in the past few days the river has risen due to heavy rainfall.

Sources from the Interior Ministry told “Meta” unofficially that 23 migrants were rescued by teams from police and fire, search and rescue units, as well as territorial unit from Gevgelija helped to get the bodies out of he rising water at River Suva.

They were taken to the reception center near the Macedonian – Greek border.

Also according to the first unofficial information, among the victims there were no children. It is assumed that the migrants were from Afghanistan.

The MOI announced more that they would have more information later on in the day, after the the authorities finish inspecting the scene.
