The UK coronavirus strain detected in North Macedonia

The Ministry of Health of North Macedonia informed that today, during the analyses of the data for the COVID-19 positive patients egistered in January, in one specimen the Laboratory of Genetics and Personalized Medicine in the Zhan Mitrev Clinic in Skopje identified the UK coronavirus strain.

The patient is a 46-year-old man who had already recovered – in the database of the Public Health Institute (PHE), this patient was registered as recovered on the 22nd of January.

According to the information received from the PHE, the patient had taken the rapid test for the first time on the 29th of December 2020, due to fever and difficult breathing. The test result was positive. After a couple of days, on the 4th of January 2021, he went for examination to the Zhan Mitrev Clinic, where a PCR test was made, which was positive, and the patient was immediately hospitalized there.

On the 15th of January 15, a a further test in the hospital was again positive.

In the epidemiological survey, the patient has not claimed contacts with foreigners or travels abroad.
