The number of people caught without face masks drops, although the number of active COVID-19 cases is high

-

The Ministry of Interior (MOI) informed that in the past 24 hours, the police have registered 237 people who were not wearing face masks. This is the smallest number of reported violations by MOI in the past period since the government has issued the order for mandatory wearing personal protection in order to prevent the COVID-19 spread.

Against the drop in the number of fines issued by MOI, the Health Ministry has been publishing information of a large number of people infected with COVID-19. Yesterday, there were 136 newly infected cases while in the past week there was a record number of newly infected people in a single day since the start of the coronavirus epidemic in Macedonia.

MOI’s statistical data shows most of the fines were issued during the first half of June and on certain days there were over 1000 violations of the face protection measure. In the last few days, MOI’s statistics showed a drop in such violations by five times.

On the other hand, on the streets of the cities, one can notice citizens not wearing masks even at the busiest locations. People not keeping a physical distance or grouping in large groups as if the virus has been completely wiped out. People without face masks can be noticed in public transportation or closed spaces in the past few days.
