The Association of Journalists of Macedonia (AJM) informs of a court judgement in its favor. Namely, a profile on Facebook named “Sasho Mitev” posted a comment with obscenities and hate speech under a post on AJM’s Facebook page.

According to the judgment of the Basic Criminal Court, Sasho Mitev is guilty under the article 394 – G of the Criminal Code and was sentenced to three months in prison. The sentence will be suspended if he does not repeat the offence in the one-year period after the judgement.

On the 28th of July 2021, Mitev wrote the following obscene comment with hate speech on AJM’s Facebook page:  “#@*! your journalistic gang, #@*!, liars, mandatory prison for any journalist spreading panic in this year and a half, the tongues of all the journalists should be cut off.”

AJM on the 16th of August 2021 submitted criminal charge to the Department of Computer Crime and Digital Forensics of the Ministry of Interior, accusing Mitev of spreading racist and xenophobic materials through a computer system and for causing hatred, discord and intolerance on national, racial, religious and other discriminatory grounds.
