“Student plenum”: Prime Minister relented, but we are not naive

-

After long hours of debate and healthy discussion after today’s meeting in the Government of the Republic of Macedonia, members of the plenum are united in their view that their obvious arguments persuaded Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski at the absurdity of his law. Today he relented, but members of the plenum are not naive, say representatives of “Student plenum”.

“The legal procedure is well known: the first step towards the abolition of the law is a moratorium, i.e. delay of the already adopted law. We will consider the first step as fulfilled if we see it voted in a parliamentary procedure. Afterwards follows the adoption of an entirely new law. Our struggle is for students to be constantly and directly involved in its creation as the inevitable and relevant factor. If it doesn’t occur, the openness and willingness of our Government will be illegitimate. It would just be usual stalling, delaying the revolt, fear. In this case, our civic duty is rebellion,” reads the statement of “Student plenum”.

They say that they learned from previous transparency and inclusiveness, remain alert and that the student front is not closed.
