SYRIZA claims victory in Greek elections while the New Democracy Party admits defeat

The Greek people have decided to give a second chance to political party SYRIZA and its government. According to the first official results of the 21 percent of votes counted, SYRIZA are leading with 35.4 percent of the vote, New Democracy with 28.2 percent. The difference between the two parties is expected to be more than 7 percent.

The third party according to the results is the neo-Nazi party Golden Dawn with 7.3 percent of the vote. The party, despite the arrests and imprisonment of their leaders, did not loose parts of their support, and according to surveys by the media, the party was favored mostly by unemployed Greek voters.
The fourth party, which is considered one of the resurrected political factors and the evening victors, PASOK recieved 6.5 percent of the vote, behind them is the Communist Party with 5.5 percent of the vote. The River party won an overwhelming 3.8 percent of the vote, Independent Greeks also 3.7 percent, while the tiny party Union Centre received 3.5 percent of the vote and probably entered Parliament for the first time.
The party of “outlaws” from SYRIZA, the National Unity lead by Panayotis Lafazanis seems will not enter into the congregation because they only received 2.7 percent of the vote.
According to the first results, SYRIZA will get 144 seats, New Democratic Party 75, Golden Dawn 20, PASOK 17 , the Communist Party 15, the River Party 10, Independent Greeks 10 and the Union Center 9.
