Today, during the break at the talks between the various political parties, Oliver Spasovski (the General Secretary at SDSM) claimed that the Prime Minister, Nikola Gruevski proved his guilt when he asked for the audio recordings of his party’s members to be removed as evidence.
“For nine months, Nikola Gruevski lied to the Macedonian public saying that the audio recordings which prove his crimes had been cut and edited. Yesterday, Mr Gruevski as good as admitted the contents of documents and audio recordings published in “Vistinata za Makedonija” (The Truth about Macedonia).Nikola Gruevski’s greatest fears were realised, and he must now face the consequences of his guilt”, said Spasovski.
He also added that yesterday’s decision taken by the court was illegal, as the court has no right to act upon ‘requests’ of Nikola Gruevski, and other suspects, at this stage of court proceedings.
For Spasovski, the High Court should have responsibilities for these judges actions, and should have the power to overturn the judge’s rulings.
“Any judge who perverts the course of justice and in doing so aids the accused in these criminal proceedings, is, in accordance with most international practice, can be punished with a more severe sentence than the accused. After applying pressure on the court yesterday, Mr Gruevski revealed his intentions to abandon the agreed terms of the Przino Agreement. Nonetheless, Mr Gruevski cannot just desert his responsibility to that agreement”, said Spasovski.
It is Spasovski’s view, that in the light of this scandal, the need for for a Special Public Prosecutor is warranted.
“A Special Public Prosecutor has to be appointed, as for the audio recordings, they should be passed on to any new prosecutor, so that Nikola Gruevski and his associates cannot escape justice” Spasovski concluded.
