President Ivanov and Minister Chavkov discussed the refugee crisis

Macedonian President Gjorge Ivanov and the Minister of Internal Affairs, Mitko Chavkov discussed measures and actions taken to prevent and deal with the entry of illegal migrants in the regions affected by the crisis situation and their movement through the territory of the Republic of Macedonia.

The meeting concluded that all entities involved in the management of this crisis, with increased operating activities and are now facing a shortage of capacity in material, personnel, technical equipment and vehicles, stated the Presidents Cabinet.
“The Ministry of Internal Affairs stated that daily 6,000 to 7,000 foreign nationals move through the country, and the information and analysis indicates an increase of migrants in the next few months. Police forces have support from the Army, and will face working in an extremely complex activity. To protect the countries national security, Macedonia may be forced to respond differently, like breaking down the corridor ‘to Europe’ and close its borders, and the weather is an issue as well.” Said the Minister of Internal Affairs.
From the Presidential Office Georgi Ivanov demanded development programs which will constantly inform and raise awareness among citizens and society about the threat and the risks of illegal migration facing the country.
