PASOK has warned Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras for the views similar to Golden Dawn on the immigration policies of New Democracy. During yesterday’s visit to Evros, a place which is on the border with Turkey and where most immigrants are entering Greece by water, on account of what, stronger electric fence was placed two years ago, Samaras showed strict, conservative attitudes to attack the liberal migration policy of SYRIZA.
“This fence, which is longer than 10 kilometers, is the boundary that prevents entry of thousands of illegal immigrants who are uncontrollably entering Greece and who for years created problems for the entire Greek people. Some want to break down this fence because their position is that illegal immigrants should enter and that we should even give them citizenship, insurance and health care. The Greek people will not allow this”, said Samaras in Evros.
Surprisingly, the reaction to this cruel statement of Prime Minister didn’t come from SYRIZA, but the Department of Human Rights of PASOK. Through a statement, they noted that migration policy and dealing with migration wave shouldn’t be something for internal use, but policy that will be jointly agreed upon by all parties with respect to human rights and European values.
“The revival of Baltakos (Samaras adviser who was caught in close video conversation with Golden Dawn) in anticipation of early elections doesn’t benefit the country. These political attitudes and political space already belongs to Golden Dawn and other groups”, say representatives of the Department of Human Rights, admonishing Samaras indirectly not to engage in extreme-right statements that resemble the statements of the neo-Nazi party.
