Greek-Macedonian relations and nationalist attitude of Independent Greek regarding the name Macedonia were a major part of speech of Maria Tsaruha, who is the new head of the Ministry of Macedonia and Thrace in Thessaloniki. Tsaruha send a strong message when she took office that “she will not allow anyone to steal and forge Macedonian history and the name of Macedonia”.
– We will not allow exploitation of the name and the history of Macedonia. We will appreciate the friendship of those who want to be our friends as we, as Macedonians, know – stated Tsaruha when she took office. Her statement is just one of many of Independent Greeks that they do not plan, although they are in the governing coalition with SYRIZA, to withdraw from their red lines, which do not allow our country to use the name Macedonia.
Ministry of Macedonia and Thrace became part of the Ministry of Interior, making Tsaruha, essentially, a deputy minister, not a minister. Thessaloniki journalists describe ministry as just decorative, with no essential role, an institution which Greek governments keep just to get points for patriotism. George Papandreou abolished this ministry, but Antonis Samaras reinstated it once he came to power.
