Without success in Brussels: For Zaev, Gruevski is guilty, for Gruevski, Zaev is afraid of elections

The last round of negotiations between SDSM and VMRO DPMNE in Brussels ended unsuccessfully.
According to EU Commissioner Johannes Hahn, talks were open and detailed and he urgently calls on all sides to immediately find a lasting compromise and offer concrete proposals, building on the agreement reached on 2nd of June in Skopje.
Reform efforts must be urgently implemented, feels Hahn, it is essential for the country to make progress in Euro-Atlantic processes.
Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski addressed the public after the meeting.
He believes that the leader of the opposition does not want to reach an agreement because he is afraid of facing the people on elections, thus hurting the country and the economy.
He accused Zaev of levity in the negotiations.
– The man is afraid of elections. He knows that he will experience a big fiasco at the next elections, that he will experience the greatest defeat of SDSM ever. He neither wants to reach an agreement, nor wants elections to be held – emphasized Gruevski.
On his part, Zoran Zaev said that the opposition stood behind its principles opposition and that “there are many witnesses that Gruevski is to blame for the failure of yesterday’s negotiations.”
According to the opposition leader, elections should be held only if they can be fair, regular and free.
