Bitola citizens announce that all-night protests in front of the Municipality of Bitola, which will last until Mayor Vladimir Taleski resigns, will start next week.
Revolted by the unfulfilled promises of Taleski that citizens will have accurate and timely information on what kind of air they breathe and who are the primary polluters of ambient air in the city, members of the association “We are concerned,” whose main agenda is clean air for Bitola citizens, announced that next Wednesday, 27th of May, will come out to a new protest.
According to Goran Pinza, spokesman and one of the founders of the association, the protest will start on Wednesday at 6.30 pm in front of the Stiv Naumov monument on Shirok sokak in Bitola, or, as members of the association called the place, “Awakening Square”.
– We go to mass protest at the gates of the Municipality because Mayor Taleski didn’t honor the memorandum we jointly signed, with which the Municipality was obliged to announce a tender to select a company that will perform the measurement of air quality in the city and chemical composition of PM10 particles in December last year. Citizens are entitled to know what kind of air they breathe – says Pinza.
He added that the protesters will spend the night awake in front of the Municipality, and resignation of Taleski will be presented to him the next morning.
– We will block the Municipality and the Boulevard, we will spend the night there, and if he does not sign the resignation, then next Monday, 1st of June, we will start proceedings for a referendum on early elections in Bitola. It will be our next legitimate institutional step – announces Pinza.
