Macedonia still thinking what to officially say about Rama’s statement regarding NATO

-

State agencies in charge of foreign policy of Macedonia are still without a position on the statement of Prime Minister of Albania Edi Rama, who announced possible veto to Macedonia’s accession to NATO.

MFA yesterday and today say that the consultations and analysis of Rama’s statement are ongoing. Cabinet of President Gjorgje Ivanov also had no answer to our question to comment on statements by Albanian Prime Minister to veto Macedonia’s accession to NATO. They say that we would be timely notified if there is any reaction.

ARM yesterday said for META that it is a political question and they told us to seek the answer by the politicians.

– We do not want to comment on politicians. I just want to point out that ARM has achieved the standards for accession to NATO. The accession to this organization is a political decision, but all that was required of us as an army was met – stated Colonel Mirche Gjorgoski, spokesman of the General Staff, for us.

At the Regional Ministerial Meeting on Counter-Terrorism, Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama yesterday said that Macedonia should join NATO, but not unconditionally or because of armed conflicts.

– Macedonia cannot join NATO without warranty of the Ohrid Framework Agreement – said Rama.

This is the third threat to veto Macedonia’s accession to NATO after that of Greece because of the name and Bulgaria due to an agreement on good neighborly relations.
