Ljubanishta won’t give up the land for a tourist zone, a new protest scheduled for tomorrow

-

Coordinating body for preservation of properties in the settlement Ljubanishta, rural and weekend settlement on the shore of Ohrid Lake convened another meeting of current and former residents for tomorrow evening, after the state brought a decision for preparation of an urban plan for construction of a second tourist development zone on Ljubanishko pole. The Government’s decision is published in the “Official Gazette” on 31st of December and includes properties of the local population, part of the weekend settlement built by Ohrid Lake, as well as land of Debar-Kichevo parish.

– Locals say that they have not been asked nor informed. This is the second meeting this year, after the one in June. They announce resistance, civil disobedience, blocking the international road from Ohrid to border crossing St. Naum towards Albania. The entire field, entire public property is now taken from us for tourism development zone – says Naum Risteski, lawyer who is the initiator of the coordinating body.

About 1.7 million square meters of land are concerned, on which the tourism development zone should be build. The site is located at a very attractive part of the Ohrid coast. They fear that the state, with expropriation, will take it from them with a price of one euro per square meter.

Previously, the state expropriated the land in the vicinity of Ljubanishta, mostly property of the church, for the construction of first tourist development zone.
