Joint celebrations of Sts Cyril and Methodius, St. Kliment, St. Naum and Tsar Samuel with Bulgaria

During yesterday’s 143rd government session, the ministers were informed that North Macedonia and Bulgaria have analyzed the Annual report of the Joint Multi-disciplinarian Expert Commission for Historical and Educational Issues and the proposals sent to the governments, there were evaluations of the commission’s work up to date and the accomplished progress regarding the ancient history.

“The suggestions for joint celebrations of the following characters from our joint history: Sts Cyril and Methodius, St. Kliment, St. Naum and Tsar Samuel. Both sides agree to promote what was agreed and in the shortest time period to adjust the dates and the joint celebrations. During each official celebration of these characters, it is necessary that the historical truth of our joint history be celebrated clearly. The joint principles and objections about the content of school books for the 5th grade in the Republic of Bulgaria and 6th grade in the Republic of North Macedonia (Prehistory and Ancient History). The proposal by the commission for analyzing the educational material in the schoolbooks for the 6th grade in the Republic of Bulgaria and the 7th grade in the Republic of North Macedonia (Middle Ages) until the end of 2019” informs the Government.

The Government proposes that the Joint Multi-disciplinarian Expert Commission for Historical and Educational Issues to speed up its activity for important subjects from, as it was stated, the joint history (Goce Delchev, the Ilynden uprising, and other subjects) and it strives to accomplish real results by the end of the 2019, regarding the content in the school books.

“It was accepted that in its work, the Commission to adhere strictly to the Provisions in Article 8, Point 2 of the Good-Neighborly Agreement which stresses that it is necessary to make a contribution for an objective informing, based upon authentic and proven historical sources for scientific interpretation of historical events” states the press release.
