Ivanov has not signed the decree for the Law on Languages

-

The President of the Republic of Macedonia, Gjorge Ivanov, announced that he had not signed the decree on the Law on Languages this afternoon, because as he says, its unconstitutional.

“Having in mind my observations on the non-compliance of the Law on the Use of Languages with the Constitution, as well as the statements made by the expert and the wider public on the illegality of this Law, and based on Article 75 of the Constitution of the Republic of Macedonia, I made the decision not to sign the decree of the Law on the Use of Languages. Today I sent a letter to the Parliament of the Republic of Macedonia, informing them that I will not not be signing it”, Ivanov said.

The President of the Republic of Macedonia says that this law has been adopted incorrectly – without a public debate, scientific debate and is completely unjust to the European flag.

“With this law, the Republic of Macedonia will become perhaps the only European state that sets itself conditions for membership in the Union that no one wants. For this absurdity to become bigger, even the indications of the representatives of the European Union were not respected and ignored”, said Ivanov.

According to the president, the law favors the Albanian language and introduces an expensive parallelism in state power, which will bring blockades and dysfunction.
