The general assessment is that there is a huge concern, above all, for the situation in Ukraine. It brings a lot of emotions, as shown in the presentations of the participants, and the anxiety 51st Munich Security Conference is also felt, where on one of the most important global forums, issues of security, but also for all challenges of our time, are discussed.
This was stated by President Ivanov, who, in the past three days, accompanied by Foreign Minister Poposki, participated at 51st Munich Security Conference.
He added that the Munich conference is known as a forum which always tries to resolve conflicts that exist to prevent other through dialogue and peaceful means.
Pointing out that the conference is an opportunity to meet with many leaders, experts and other people who make decisions in the field of security, Ivanov informed that all his previous participations in this conference, including this year, he used to exchange views, contacts and meeting with all those who are somehow connected to our region.
At the bilateral meetings in Munich, Macedonian President stressed the condition of the country’s integration into the EU and NATO, because, as he said, “we could hear that they often invoke respect for international law.”
– I pointed out that it is our problem we have with our neighbor, because there is a lack of respect for international law and already adopted agreements. I indicated that Macedonia has long been blocked due to violation of the international law by our southern neighbor, and that the positive experiences we have in our region for parallel movement of the negotiation process for EU membership, which transforms our society, should apply for us as well – stated President Ivanov.
He explained that all countries in our region transformed their societies and that their institutions are all adapted to European standards and principles, i.e. that the whole atmosphere is being changed.
– That is what we are missing and, due to the blockade, we see the current situation in our country and where it all leads – President Ivanov said, adding that his interlocutors expressed interest in everything that is a threat to our region, such as terrorism and foreign fighters.
