Now it is important for political parties to negotiate, to find a way to form a coalition government. It is very important that the political leaders work as quickly and efficiently as possible and reach an agreement in order to avoid an overly long process, said Deputy Assistant Secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs at the State Department, Brian Hoyt Yee, in a statement for “Voice of America.”
“The USA, certainly respects the sovereignty of Macedonia and the possibility for the parties to make a decision without outside interference. Our role at the moment is to observe, to offer our advice about certain principles – for e.g., we think it is important that the new government should be supporting the international commitments, including the commitments from the Przino agreement. The political parties should make it clear that they are committed to respecting the country’s Constitution, the human rights and to respect the country’s institutions including the new institutions such as the Special Prosecutor’s Office, to respect the rule of law and the goals of the citizens for integration with the rest of Europe and to join NATO”, said Hoyt Yee.
The Deputy Assistant Secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs stressed that he believes that the political parties will be focused on the citizen’s aims, and not on the narrow-minded political interests and that they will have the opportunity to reach an agreement for a coalition government.
Hoyt Yee didn’t want to comment on the platform of the Albanian parties, but he called upon party leaders to bear in mind that the citizens are counting on them and he urged them to promptly make a decision about the government.
